OUR RABBI
Rabbi Jacob Benzaquen
Rabbi Jacob Benzaquen is the rabbi of Temple Emanu-El. He was born in England, and comes from a long line of Spanish, Sephardic congregational rabbis. He attributes his first inspiration to his grandfather Rabbi Jacob Benzaquen z’l’ with whom he shared a loving relationship with Judaism and God. This first experience has allowed him to use this teaching and make him the creative man that he is today.
He was ordained in a Conservative Rabbinic Ordination by the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles, California in 2006. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Yeshiva University. He also attended the Jewish Theological Seminary and Academy for Jewish Religion in New York receiving a certificate in Chemical dependency Counselor Certification for Clergy. His myriad of experience is an asset that will contribute to his success with the Bayonne community.
Rabbi Jacob last worked as a pulpit Rabbi at the Kings Park Jewish Center in Kings Park, NY. In addition he was also a pulpit Rabbi at the Congregation Temple Emanuel in Reno, Nevada where he revitalized the Hebrew School and increased membership.
Rabbi‘s vast experience with all age groups and all possible members is a testament to his ability to create a new enthusiasm and a rebuilding at Temple Emanu-El.
